I am christian and do go to church, BUT, I dont try to press my beliefs on other people, its really everybodys choice. But, have you tried a childrens Bible? Some of them have pictures and things in them. I have some story books for my son also that teach Noah's Ark, and Jonah, etc. That might be an idea. I used to never go to church, didnt really care about church because when I was growing up it was SOOOOO boring and I never understood it. I finally decided when I had a child that I wanted to start going to church...well we tried out a few and I was like BLAH BLAH, especially the Baptist church we went to that the pastor was talking about how people with piercings and tattoos are bad (not in the exact words) ... but then we checked out the church I belong to which is Celebrate. The first time I went there was a Christian rock band, Casting Pearls and they fricken rocked. So I checked it out the next weekend and was definatley hooked. My pastor doesht like the word Religion at all. What he does in his sermons, is give basic bible principals and relates them to real life.. which made things way more understandable to me! haha.. Their childrens church (depending on age) they sing and dance and do lots of fun things upstairs in the church, so I like that! But... going back to books and stuff, maybe check out Crossroads christian store, that way you can choose what basic principals you want to teach your children, then when they get old enough they have basic knowledge and can make a well informed decision. Good luck!!!

EASY money from home!
hello i may be that secular mom that you are looking to hang out with...i am also looking to buy a small business, possibly a bar/grill, or just a bar, laundromat,or whatever else pans out on paper, like to garden and am selling at farmers market this year and i also crochet, but haven't learned to knit yet...two girls ages 7 and 12....so if you want to hang out pm me back...i won't take you to my church since i don't have one.
I grew up not going to church every week we did Vacation Bible School and Church camps and were taught basic beliefs in our home. When i was a teen, we did join a church and i was baptised, but when i went off to college i stopped again. When i had my daughter i went to several churches to find one i like with simular beliefs as me. I did find a luthern church i loved with a great pastor that explained things and was very creative, they have a great youth program and my daughter loved it. Now over the years, my fave pastor has left and we have kinda slowed down in going, really only because we are soooo busy that i enjoy relaxing on Sundays. With that being said, i do think that you can be a good person and never go to Church. Church itself does not make you a good person. I also have lots of questions about religion. I am wierd i like to watch show on the History channel about religion and people from the bible. Very interesting, i also enjoyed the books Angels and Demons and the Davinci Code. I am kinda "Devils Advocate" kind of person, so i like to mess with some of my friends!! LOL
Hi - I sent you a PM, but also just remembered that there is a Unitarian church in Sioux Falls. I don't really know much about it, but the website & a blurb is below.
I'm probably best described as humanist (because of the nasty reactions I get if I say athiest...Christians are so judgemental...wait, that was kind of judgemental of me wasn't it? I kid, I kid.)
Anyway:

Are there any other moms out there that consider themselves more "secular" than anything else? (Please note: this post is certainly not meant to condemn any other belief systems. Quite the contrary...I wholeheartedly believe in freedom of religion...to include no religion.)
I don't consider myself a Christian, but I'm not really anything else either. I'm not really atheist...more agnostic I guess. Religion is just something I tend not to think about until someone tries to press me into going to their church.
I thought I wanted to raise my daughters at least experiencing some "church" activities, but after sending my oldest to vacation bible school this summer and having her sing about the power of christ's blood, I'm starting to rethink things. I kind of thought she'd sing about noah and the flood like I did growing up in a christian school.
First, how do you teach your children basic Christian beliefs so that they understand, without sounding judgemental? I want my children to have the freedom to make up their own minds.
Second, would anyone like to get together? It seems all my friends are constantly trying to get us to go to church with them and all that and it'd be nice to have some mom friends I can hang out with without that pressure.
Anyone?
