The public hearing for the City's capital program is Monday, July 21 at Carnegie Town Hall at 7pm. Come out and let the Council know that you support this project!!
Does it go to a vote of the council members or how does something like that work with something like this..is it just like the regular City Council meetings and this is just for the capital program at this meeting? Do they need input from people knowing that we need this or is there a way to e-mail them, etc. to let them know you are in favor of this, etc.? I am sure if it is even being brought up the Siouxland Libraries has already done the statistics with attendence, etc. to let the council know that this is a true need for our community. I couldn't imagine why it wouldn't pass as long as the funds are there and the city's budget will allow it to happen.
That would be wonderful, Callie is nice, but when they have story times and puppet shows, its just not big enough!!!
On July 21, the Council will just take public input on the plan. They don't take official action until August 11 to approve the plan. Again, if you go to siouxfalls.org, there is a link to all the City Council members and their emails. Send them a message and let them know your support. I believe the library is planned for 2010-2011, so let them know you think it should be sooner....2009 perhaps.
Thank you so much for your helpful information! I appreciate it very much! I have never had an opinion either way with the things that have been decided on with the 5 year plan in Sioux Falls with the budgets and what is in store for our community in the past and as I am still young I am just learning the process of how all this works, but I cannot wait to get involved in things like this that directly effect me. I grew up in a smaller community outside of Sioux Falls, so things are done a little differently there as it is such a smaller community vs. Sioux Falls, so a lot of this is new to me on who to contact and how to go about getting things rolling and I want to get involved and stay informed. Hopefully more people will do so as well! Thank you again mom2threeboys for your very helpful information, that makes a huge difference to know how to go about things. I appreciate your willingness to help and hopefully it will get the information out there for others that are interested as well!
No problem...I think many people think of government as just a bad class they took during high school. It's actually your money at work. Your taxes go to improve the city, and like with any other things you purchase, shouldn't you know and have a say in what your money is buying. The City website is full of information, not only for new city projects, but for new businesses coming to town too. Most businesses coming to town have to stop at the city first to get a liquor license, request rezoning of property, etc. Also, the City puts on many classes for our kids...from the zoo to library to the pavilion there are lots of fun options.
Get involved and stay involved...it's your money!!

Yesterday we were at the Puppet Show at the Callie Branch Library on 49th and at the beginning Jim Oliver, the head of Children's Services with the SiouxLand Libraries stated that the City Council is considering building a new branch Library out by Memorial Middle School area to support the west side of town. He said if anyone has some pull or knows what to do to support this to the City Council that would be great and help out a ton! Is there a way to get something going to let the City Council know that a new Library would be a huge benefit to the West Side of town with how packed Storytime and Special Event Shows get at the Callie Branch as well as just how busy the Library is in general just to let the City Council know the true need of this service for our community? Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the word out there that there is a need for this, etc. or how to go about this with past issues you may have been involved in? Spread the word!
