Yup, my budget billing almost doubled. I was in shock too!
so i have a stupid question that maybe you ladies could help me with..i am buying a house that has a fuel oil furnace/DIESEL FUEL(4.25 GALLON) and was contemplating replacing it with a natural gas furnace..so if natural gas is increasing so much is there another option..besides a geothermal heat pump that would cost a mint...does anyone have any different sources of heat??and if so do you like it???stuff like corn burners or outdoor wood furnaces??and if you do have a geothermal heat pump how much did you pay for it, and who did you buy it from, and do you like it and does it really cut your bills as much as they say it will....Help, Help, HELP!!!
Maybe someone else has the answer, but I have seen the rise in electricity, to everyone switching to natural gas and the fluctuations. I'm not sure there is a good answer, as if one rises, they all seem to follow suit sooner or later. Do you recoup the cost-not sure of that. So to invest in something to think you might save a dollar later, I haven't had that happen yet. Just my opinion...but we are never going to get ahead until something drastically changes.

We have a geothermal heat pump and love it!!!! We have had it for 5 years now. I can't remember what we paid for it but it has almost paid for itself. We also have radiant heat panels in the ceiling of a new addition that we added on to our house. I cooled my house last month for $42.00. Our highest bill last winter was in February and it was $130.00. When your geothermal is working it is also heating up your hot water so you get double usage out of it. We bought ours from our local cooperative as we live in the country and since we get our electricty from our cooperative they give us discounted rate for the geothermal and our radiant heat panels. Cooling with a geothermal is awesome. We have the temperature set at 72 degrees and at night if you are laying around you almost need a blanket. I run a daycare and my front door is constantly being opened and shut and sometimes the kids forget and leave it open - we have not problems with the house staying cool/warm with as many times a day that door is opened. Since we bought ours, my in-laws, bil, neighbor and our son have bought them and enjoy them also. Any other questions you can pm me!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this...the house my fiance bought has a heat pump and we were wondering how exactly this worked. I am looking forward to lower bills--thats for sure!
bump doesn't anyone want to talk about this???
My neighbor and are's both doubled. I called the 800 number as well thinking a mistake. No!! I looked at past statements and I looked and we were about the same and we caught up by the end of the year. I guess we have to be optimistic, and not worry about it. Well all be snuggled in the same bed this winter, in our footed pj's.
I just moved here from MN-this is your first big hike? I felt the pain 3 years ago. The cost to heat our pool tripled and that's when I knew the cost was going up so I knew to budget for winter. If this is SD's first hike...feel lucky!!
What to do? Work 50 jobs to pay for inflation...lol :-
Actually, I love how minimum wages increase, yet right along side that inflation increases much, much more. I feel for those that live on minimum wage. Something needs to change as wages cannot keep up with inflation. Businesses are going OUT of Business trying to keep up with minimum wage plus the cost of doing business yet can't always recoup the cost. Sad situation. Hopefully a new president can turn this economy back around.

Holy Buckets! I got my natural gas bill today and there is a new budget amount on it (they average out my usage and I pay a set amount every month instead of getting some smaller bills and some giganic bills). It is doubling. I thought it was a mistake and I called the 800 number to see what the deal is, and the lady told me some budgets are going up even more than that. She also said natural gas is supposed to be up anywhere from 40% to 60% for the next heating season. Guess we are going to be freezing this winter if that is so.
