Message T-shirts

   Submitted by Janna on July 10, 2008 - 3:34pm.

I recently bought my son a shirt that says Mr. Happy. I make him wear it when he’s crabby. He has no idea what the shirt says, but I think it’s funny. But it got me to thinking - there are a lot of cute shirts with fun little sayings like that, like “Here comes trouble” and the like. But then you have shirts that verge into the snotty territory. One of my co-workers recently saw a teenager wearing a shirt that said “Shut the feck up you fecking bitch.” Argh. What do you think of T-shirts with sassy sayings? Do your kids wear them? Where do you draw the line between sassy and snotty?

I love shirts with funny sayings on them! I got one for my nephew one time that said "My daddy's tattoos are better then your daddy's" because my brother has a lot of tattoos. I also seen one it said "I've got my mommy's looks and my daddy's gas", "all mommy wanted was a backrub" or "does this diaper make my butt look big"...those are some classics!

That teenager one you mentioned is way beyond snotty, it is unacceptable, in my opinion. I cannot believe a parent would let their child/teen out of the house in something like that. I love the sassy sayings t shirts on little ones - it's kinda funny that they don't get it, but we do! I just bought Claire one that said, "Little in size, big in attitude." Grant used to have one that said, "I do all my own stunts." I should say that I love them especially if they really fit the child's personality. The two I mentioned couldn't be any more true of my children.

My son is a CLIMBER!! he climbs everywhere and he is only 1!!! He has the shirt that says "I do all my own stunts".. it fit him PERFECTLY!! we thought is was extra special because my hubby has the EXACT same shirt except in "daddy size"... When they both wear them it is so cheesy but WAY cute!!!! it is so funny when they match!!!! My daughter has had MANY shirts with sayings such as "ill trade ya cookies for presents", "Hes not just my daddy, he my hero", "Daddys Angel" and "thats it, im going to grandmas" ... She likes them, we tell her what they say! i HATE the ones with swear words on them!! I was just at the 311 concert last night and saw a shirt that said "shut the (f word) up you (f-ing) (F-er)... that is 3 "f" words on one shirt!!!! Terrible if you ask me!!

I agree, it is a fine line you have to walk with the t-shirts. That being said, I do love getting them for my kids, as long as they are not "crossing the line." My favorites for my 4yo son have been "I tried to be good but I got bored" "I do all my own stunts" "This is my secret identity" and my 9yo daughter had one that said "It's cute how you think I'm listening." These totally suited their personalities, so they cracked me up!

I love when little kids have cute shirts saying things. Our son has a few himself...

Major Trouble - camo romper
I do my own stunts - romper
I know...go to my room - t-shirt

Those are only to name a few! I think the older kids can take it too far at times though, like the mentioned. Although I did wear one 2 yrs ago to my dr's appt that said, I'll try to nicer if you try to be smarter. Dr thought it was great since I was preggo and hormonal.

My lil guy has one that says "I'm the Man" and "Lock up your daughters" My step-daughter has one that says "the dog did it" cuz that's what they always tell their daycare provider. I think they're cute, but to put things like that teenager had is way out of bounds. What parent would allow it..I had issues with letting Ry wear the "daughters" one to daycare cuz it makes him seem cocky and my two year old doesn't need to be brought up thinking he's better than anyone else.

I would have to draw the line at that one you mentioned...that is just not appropriate. Sassy is cute until they hit about 12 or 13...then it goes from sassy to snotty or spoiled brat real quickly for me. Sadee had one that said "What happens at grandma's, stays at grandma's!" And your "Here comes trouble" reminded me of when I was way younger. My little brother had underwear that said that on the butt. It was too cute! But put that on a 13 year old girls butt, and then they're just asking for it!

I had one custom made for my daughter, and there is a little backround story for it. Her father, my fiance, has a nickname, it is White Chocolate, cheesy yes, but it fits him since he is about the whitest boy ever! He glows in the dark for crying out loud! :) So for christmas with the help of 3gsmom I got them both a shirt, Mikes is black with the words White Chocolate on the back in white lettering and then MaKayla's say White Chocolate Chip in brown on a pink shirt, did this since she is a spitting image of her father! :) Have yet to get a picture of them wearing it together but I will post it as soon as I do! :)

My husband, and his wonderful sense of humor, wanted to get one for our daughter when she was a baby that said "Little Squirt" by a swimming sperm. Can you guess why I said no?

we have a onsie that is prison pinstriped that says "I just spent nine months on the inside"...on one that says, "nothing is wrong just testing you" I think for little kids they are cute anythin older than 10-ish is plain sassy and unacceptable because IMO the older they are the more crude the saying.....

I work at an accounting firm and around tax time I saw a onesie at Target that said "Tax Deduction" and thought it was hilarious! Too bad my kids are older. ;)

I agree that they are cute, but when the get into the teen years and verge on the side of disrespectful then it isnt so cute anymore. All my boys have on that says "its my brothers fault" My daughter has one that says " I didnt ask to be a princess, but if the tiara fits" very fitting for her as she is the only girl all the way around(only brothers and boy cousins) so she gets pretty spoiled at times. My youngest has one that says "perfect gentleman in training" and the shirt looks like a little tux, also has one that says "stud muffin seeks cupcake, must be nice and sweet" and that fits him as he has his way with the ladies, both young and old. If the saying fits and isnt too sassy I will put my kids in it, as I think they are cute.

If something really cracks me up then I will let them wear it. Some of the t-shirts are just plain annoying. I hate the ones that make kids look stupid or ignorant. The ones making fun of homework or I say one the other day that was for young boys that said "When you talk to me, all I hear is Blah, Blah, Blah". What parent would put that on their child?

My girls both have had t-shirts that say, "My mom rocks" b/c that is so obviously true, ha ha ha. I just bought them some of the vintage Little Miss Sunshine shirts that the Gap has right now - those are too cute.

Go Flyers!!!

My brother LOVES tshirthell.com. The last time I went on there, my favorites were "Jesus was born on Christmas and died on Easter. What are the odds?" and "What Would Jesus Do for a Klondike bar?" Most of them aren't that tame, though. :-)

I love them.

Oh my, we have soooo many of these its funny. We have a onsie for our son that has Stewie (from Family Guy)as Darth Vader and it says "I SITHED my Pants". Dad has a matching one that says "I just made a Darth doddie". We had the "tax deduction" onsie, we have one that has a pic of a baby bottle and it says "Happy Hour" and my all time fav of my son's is "When God made me he was just showing off". My daughter has a couple cute ones too, like "I will trade my brother for a" the there is a pic of a hersey bar and her other fav says " Drama Queen". My husband has some that I know people find offensive, he has one that says "My B$$ls itch".

First of all, I HATE that ali_colemommy (and everyone else in the world) went to 311 without me. Secondly, I think message shirts on anyone over 5 are tacky. Isabel does have a cute one with a skull and crossbones on it and it says, "Arrrr... change me booty." I loved it!

We were no gonna to to 311 because we dont really listen to them that much but during our fundraiser Pepper Entertainment donated tickets for our Silent Auction and when my hubby went to pick up the donation one of the guys there gave hubby 2 VIP tickets for free and told hubby "I hope you and our wife enjoy the concert"! They were all such nice people! Very generouse and kind!

Well my husband wears a lot of Big Dog tshirts. I think they're all hilarious. The one he wears the most is "Big Dog Dad...I am the Fear Factor".
My daughter has a tee shirt that says "Not everyone can be a Princess. Someone has to stand on the curb and clap as I go by."
I still like to wear the tattered remains of my Co-ed Naked Ballooning shirt. "Get 'em hot and watch 'em rise." I normally don't wear clothing with pictures or messages unless we're ballooning, then we wear the stuff with the name and picture of our balloon so we look like we're part of a crew.
I have a lot of good ideas, and some not so good ideas for shirts come across my desk. There was one shirt I printed last year for a customer I couldn't resist printing one for myself. It read "Lohan is my Dealer." It was really funny at the time.

My sister made Isabel a painting with the same princess saying on it and I love it! She also made Isabel one that has a little girl and a dad (made to look like DH--it's the spitting cartoon image) that says, "My Daddy hung the moon" and has a moon above them. She's so artistic...

I like the cute ones that kids wear. My daughter had a onsie that said "tax deduction" (she was born in Dec so it was perfect) she also has 2 right now, 1 says "I'm not trying to be difficult, it just comes naturally." And the other one says, "Patients tester." My friend in high school had a shirt that said, "Condom's are easier to change than diaper." Although at 17 it was a good point for teenagers, her dad didn't care for it, as did other parents. I wouldn't have bought the shirt. Some shirts just drawn the line.

My daughter has one with that "mean bunny" on it that says, "I'm cute, you're not, Any Questions?" She also has the normal ones, "Not listening" "Because I said so" "Daddy's lil girl" "What happens at Grandma's" About 75% of her shirts have sayings on them. My son's got a few too, "Someone call the Dr. cuz these puppies are SICK!" and "Will trade sister for new puppy" I love the one in the mall that says, "Mmmm...BOOBIES!" I really like the shirts with sayings...even if they may be a lil over the line, they are just kids and it's funny! So I really don't care if it "offends" someone. :D
