I have taken/still take both my kids to the chiropractor. I took my daughter around 5 mo. for both ear infection and reflux. Same with my son. We were on the verge of tubes with both kids and once we started going to the chiropractor, the infections ceased. I think my son only had 1 after the adjustments. Now I just take them in once a month as a routine thing to make sure things are looking good.
I have taken our youngest son when he was four months old due to constipation and not sleeping at night. It only helped the constipation a little bit, but he relaxed more at night when he was that young. (He's now 17 months). At four months, he slept more soundly for the few hours he was sleeping. Now, we too go about once a month just four routine check ups. My kids see Dr. Nikki at New Horizons. My 5 year old loves the orange ape she has that helps explain how an adjustment works and what sound young children might hear when they are adjusted. I know your daughter is young yet, but just wanted to share our experiences too! Good luck on your decision.
I have been a part of 2 different chiropractors, working as a massage therapist. It was not uncommon at all to see several children and infants comming in to get adjusted. The kind of adjustment they do on infants is nothing like the adults. They don't laying them down and "crack" their backs. They feel nothing and it is so gentle. I highly recomend it. I have seen so many babies come in with with ear infections, sleep problems, gas issues all be adjusted and after a few visits had no more problems. I had my daughter adjusted days after she was born, and take her in monthly. Most places have free consultations, go talk to them. I would recommend Vitality Chiropractic, all 3 doctors have children of there own and would understand your fears.
I have taken two of my sons in. My oldest did sleep somewhat better after his adjustment. I can't remember how old he was at that time. I have had him back, because when he doesn't want to do something his legs 'always hurt.' It is an excuse, but I did take him in finally. It helps for a little, but now his brothers use the leg excuse. I took one of my twins in at 6 months because he held his head crooked. It took 3 adjustments, but it was fixed. I wished at the time I would have taken him sooner.

I've only been to the chiropractor for a couple of visits after a fall on a wet floor(about 17yrs ago), but we have a friend who is a massage therapist & she came over when Caitlin was about 4 months old & showed us some infant massage techniques. It was nice to learn some simple things we could do @home to make her more comfortable. I probably wouldn't have pursued a chiropractor but they often have massage therapists on staff, too.
You can ask 3 different doctors and get 3 different opinions=you're the parent, use good judgement & go w/your instincts.
I took my 3 month old to a chiropractor for colic. It worked wonders. He didn't actually do an adjustment like you would do on an adult. It was more massaging his spine and gently moving things into place so he was in allignment.
I took my daughter to Myles at Dixon Family Chiro in Brandon just two weeks ago and she was just three weeks old. It's a drive, but he is really great, I highly recommend him!
I took her because she was super gassy and grunting all night long. her poor tummy was very tight. After seeing him, she is much better. still has gas bouts, but her tummy is way looser and she is more able to pass gas now than she was before. she doesn't have to strain so much anymore.
My daughter and I both see Myles at Dixon Family Chiro in Brandon and I agree that he is great and worth the drive! My daughter was not even a week old when she saw him part in her getting stuck during labor and a latch issue on one side. My daughter also had tight tummy issues and would see Myles every so often to loosen it back up.
I have taken my son to the chiro for some adjustments for torticollis. It helped for a short while but then his neck went back to being crooked. I think it was a shrt term fix. Also I should add that I went to the chiro for sciatica when preggo and they automatically did an adjustment to my neck ( which I never had any problem with) I didn't know any better but now if I don't get it cracked every 6 wks or so I get terrible headaches and a super stiff neck. I wish they'd have never touched it, especially since our ins doesn't cover the chiro now. I say if there's no problem, don't find one to fix or create one!

My 11 mo. old daughter has always had issues with gas and reflux. I believe the chiropractor has helped out a lot. She also sees Dr. Miles at Dixon Chiro in Brandon. She has seen him since she was just a few weeks old. I would highly recommend him!
I do to Envive Downtown to Dr Nathan Unruh on a weekly basis due to a back injury, I also take Riley to see him too. He has seen him for ear infections, teething and just general upkeep on his spine.
Both of my kids have been adjusted since they were 4-5 days old. Being born is a hard experience on their bodies, that's why we went in so early. And I had to show them around the office! =) I work for a chiropractor, so fully believe in the benefits. My boys have been regularly adjusted since almost birth. So I can’t really answer your question because I don’t know what they would have been like if they weren’t adjusted. Does that make sense? I do know that my oldest was a GREAT baby. Probably the best baby I have ever been around, and I say that (honestly!) without biased. Did chiropractic care have anything to do with it? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t doubt it. My youngest had other ongoing issues that chiropractic care couldn’t help, like underdeveloped lungs. Our family goes to Dr Jeff Davis, 338-4200. I'd recommend just talking to a chiropractor at a consultation if you have fears. Once you see how they adjust them via an "activator" I don't think you'd be alarmed. It's extremely noninvasive. Good Luck!!
My daughter was 6 weeks old when I took her for the 1st time -- she wasn't sleeping well and had reflux -- I had a chiropractor in Lincoln (where we lived at the time) ... he did wonders! Yesterday I took her to the Harrisburg chiropractor (her 2nd chiro appt - she is almost 3yrs old) because she has been limping and her regular doctor didnt find anything wrong with her. The chiro yesterday said her knees was out of alignment (which apparently happens sometimes when they are young - he said some people call them growing pains, which are a myth, their bodies are just adjusting to getting taller/heavier) which was throwing everything off ... immediately we saw improvement - no limp! Good Luck with your decision!
I have taken my son to the chiropractor ever since he was born. There was no specific reason, other than just the process of being born can cause the first spinal misalignments. There are actually some countries that have chiro's at the hospital, and all babies are adjusted before they leave. It's not like a bone cracking kind of thing, just gental massage to push all thier little soft bons back in place. works wonders! IF delivery was long and difficult, these babies tend to be the most prone to misalignments and colic. My recommendation: Get your baby adjusted by a chiro who specializes in infants and children (I would highly recommend Dr. Ben Simonson in Brandon)
My husband is a chiropractor here in Sioux Falls, and he would be thrilled (no strings attached) to answer any questions you might have about chiropractic science, and his experience with adjusting kids (including our three). He says to please feel free to call his cell # at 212-7460 or email jhunter_dc@yahoo.com. That goes for Emma's Mom and all SiouxFallsMoms.com readers.
Take care,
Karla Hunter
Has anyone ever taken their child to see Mark Hardwick? He is a chiropractor in Sioux Falls that specializes in infants. His office is on E 26th Street, River Ridge Spine & Rehab. My husband goes to his partner, Dr. Van Riper, and wants me to take Emma to see Dr. Mark Hardwick. She's way too fussy and having sleeping disturbances; I want to give it a try.
I have taken my daughter (and myself) to Dr. Jennifer Foss at Westside Chiropractic Center.
I took my youngest for colic - it was amazing how that adjustment nearly cleared up her colic all together!
She only had to go back for one follow-up adjustment and never had a problem with colic again.

Has anyone ever taken their child to a chiropractor for an adjustment? How old was your child? What was the reason (if you wouldn't mind sharing)? Was the outcome positive or negative? Would you do it again? Who was the chiropractor?
I always hear about how great babies feel/sleep/behave after their adjustments, but my family doctor is totally against it; he says he's seen way too many kids with more problems after the adjustments. So, part of me wants to take Emma (almost 6 months old) for an appointment and part of me doesn't. Thanks.
