Okay, I know this is going to sound silly, but I just have to share. It's a bit past my bedtime, and as I was looking at the list of threads, this one caught me by surprise. Clearly I'm a bit tired, but my first thought was that the title read "carpooling WITH Anne Sullivan" and, in my swiss cheese brain, I made the immediate connection from Anne Sullivan to Helen Keller. Instantly, I was like "Who in their right mind would carpool with Helen Keller???"
Okay, I hope that didn't offend anyone; I just thought y'all might get a kick out of my insanity!
lol that is too funny! thanks for the giggle! I needed it tonight--its been a rough week!
I'm not getting the response I had hoped for on this post so I have a new question... What do you do when you cannot personally transport your child to school & the child is too young or it is too far to walk? Are there any transportation services available for shuttling kids to school? Anyone know if the schools might keep a list of people who are interested in car pooling? I'm beginning to think that I may have no choice but to pull my kids from the home daycare they have been in for the last 2 years and place them into a center so that I have transportation for my son. We don't have family available to help out in this situation, so I'm wondering what others do?

well my son starts preschool at anne sullivan and I am taking him everyday... if u live not too far out of the way i could take them too school...
Is he in the head start/preschool program? My son was in that program for the last 2 years-it's a wonderful program and the teachers are great. However, if I remember correctly they begin at 9am and go to 12:30 and kindergarten runs 8-2:45.

I think your best bet would be to talk with a neighbor and see if you can work something out. Does the school have some sort of open house that you will go to and meet the teacher and see the classroom, other kids in the class and their parents, etc. a week or two before school starts? I would see if there is going to be a little neighborhood kid that might even be in your child's class that you could work something out with. You could call the school and ask if they have a list or something available and if they don't now, maybe it would be a good idea to bring up for them to start something for the future, just a basic paper that people could write their name and number on and have it available for parents that might want to work together...it wouldn't be any work really for the office staff, just a paper to keep on hand for people who need it, it would be up to the parents to work things all out...worth asking about and trying to get something started to help others as well, as I am sure you are not the only one in this situation. They will not be able to give out names of classmates for confidentiality reasons these days as well which makes things hard in your situation as well, otherwise you could possibly work out something with another parent in your child's class. Maybe create a post of who goes to Anne Sullivan and then possibly work something out with someone that replies to that post...maybe find out who does daycare in your neighborhood and see how they get the daycare kids to school and maybe you can help the in-home daycare provider out a few days a week in turn for her helping you out. Does Anne Sullivan have a before school program that you could bring your child to on a part-time basis?....just a few ideas...I don't have a child in school yet and am on the other side of town or I would try to help you. Don't give up your search yet and don't pull them from a daycare you love and have been at...keep searching...it is bound to work out with time! :)
Thanks for the suggestions. We open-enrolled to Anne Sullivan because that is where my son attended for early-childhood and his daycare is close by, we live in another district and so do not have the option of carpooling with a neighbor. We have considered the breakfast & afterschool programs, however because of work schedules I don't think that would work...but I will keep trying as I am certain that others are in my same situation. Thanks again.

My son will be starting kindergarten at Anne Sullivan this fall and I am in need of someone to car-pool with. I am an RN and would be able to transport your children the days that I am not working-so it would be an even trade 2-3 days per week each. I have a large vehicle and would be willing to transport 2-3 children in addition to my own. Please send me your info via private message if interested.
