Adopt a cat !!

About 3 weeks ago I went to the Humane Society to adopt a cat. I spent forever in there, checking them all out, and finally decided on a beautiful 7 year old long haired tortoiseshell called Mystique. I was SO close to adopting her, but when I read her info, it said she did not get along with other cats (or dogs). I was SO sad, as I have 2 other cats, so knew it wouldn't work. I did end up adopting another cat, who woke up the last 5 minutes I was there, and won my heart :) Yesterday, I was at Petsmart, and just had to check out the cats they have in there (they usually have a few that are from the Humane Society). I was so sad to see that Mystique was there. I know I can't adopt her, but there are plenty of people out there who could !! It seems like so many people only want kittens, and not an older cat - that is so sad !! So please - if you know of anyone who would like a new friend - someone who doesn't have any cats or dogs (though I believe she does get along with children) - please point them in Mystique's direction !! She's gorgeous !! You can check her out at the Humane Society's website - or go and see her at Petsmart !! I am in no way affiliated with the Humane Society - I just fell for this cat that I can't give a home to, and I feel so bad !!

I was looking at all the cats at PetSmart on Friday, and of course everyone standing there was looking at the kittens. Kittens are cute, but they are a lot of work! We rescued a pregnant kitty on Easter and have been raising her 6 kittens since April 16th. Whew, it's been exhausting, but what an amesome experience for my four children! Thankfully three of them have gone to their new homes (including 2 wonderful homes in Sioux Falls...thank you ladies!), one is leaving for his new home in Kansas City next week, and we are keeping one kitten and the mama cat. However, I do still have one amazing kitten left. The woman who was planning to take him suddenly had to move in with her elderly parents, and she just can't take him now. PM me if you are interested....
But first, SERIOUSLY consider adopting an older animal (cat or dog). So many animals are euthanized every year because they cannot find homes, yet so many people keep buying kittens and puppies...some of which end up back in the shelter once they realize how much work they can be. Very sad :-(
Maybe I'm destined to become that crazy old lady everyone talks about, but when my kids are grown and gone I think I'll go to the Humane Society and adopt those old dogs and cats that were left behind when their elderly owners died. Have you ever noticed those animals?? They are SO scared, and SO sad, and most of them are SO old!! They will never be adopted...
(Can you tell I just downed 2 cups of coffee?? I'll go find something more constructive to do with my energy now...have a great day!)

We love Daisy! She is a feisty little girl who requires all of us to care for her. The dog and her are now buddies and have grown to love each other already. Thanks!

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have a cat!! I love cats!! Unfortunatly we live in a apartment and he wants a $500 deposit for a cat! My daugher asks weekly for a "kidden"... I would love to get her one SO SO SO BAD but i dont have $500 to give to the landlord!! I dont really undertand how he runs this place cause you have to pay a $500 deposit for an animal but he allows smoking!?!?! i dont get it!! isn't smoking just as stinky as pets!?!?!?

I feel for you. I wish we could help out, but we have one cat already, who we found out is not happy about having to share his territory with other cats, so it probably would not work out, unfortunately. Could you possibly contact the Humane Society, explain your situation, and ask if there is any way they can notify you in the case that she does NOT get adopted-and maybe even call you to tell you if she DOES, just for your own peace of mind? I'm not sure of their policy, but you think they could tell you if it was her last resort. And then at least you could adopt her, take her home, keep the cats separated, and attempt to find her a good home in the meantime? Just try to hope for the best, and hope she does find the perfect home.

Mystique is beautiful! I saw her at Petsmat the other day. I too am in the market for an older cat but since she isn't good around other cats, I had to pass.

I just wanted to bump this for Mystique!!!

Just a thought...if anyone is interested in an older cat, maybe you'd be interested in our mama cat. She is estimated to be 2 years old, beautiful calico. We call her Callie, creative, huh! We have four other cats, and she's been a bit protective of her kittens but she's finally starting to warm up to them. She is such a sweet cat, loves to be petted and loves human interaction.
She has her first set of shots, will get her 2nd set this Wednesday, if you want to wait another month I'll provide her 3rd set too. Then she'll be good for a year.
If you are interested, PM or email me. BeccaKC@aol.com

Hey Rosanna, want another kitten? Daisy needs a friend, right??? I'm so happy we found you as a home, you guys are awesome!

My best friend just had her baby (Emma Jean) and has a cat named Ted that sadly she needs to give up. She can't bring him to the Humane Society but only has an apartment and needs to get rid of him. I would take him but my cat did not take to him (she is territorial) but he seemed to like her. If anyone is interested he is a VERY loving cat and I wish I could have him myself but don't want him to go to the humane society! Pm me if interested I have photos, he is white and with brown all over.

Honestly I dont know if I would completely believe what they post on the list of cats likes and dislikes. I got my cat with the dislikes of dogs and car rides. She rode in the windsheild on the way home loving it. A year later we got a puppy and she loves him. She was a return addoption orginally so I think the people just made stuff up to get them to take her back. She is however a guard dog LOL and doesnt care for people other than family to much but most cats are like that. Friends say she reminds them of Church from pet cemetary...if that explains her any.

Likes and dislikes are determined by the cat being in a shelter and understress already. I know when I'm stressed I am not the greatest people person but that doesnt mean I should be kept away from people every day.

A gradual introduction over the timespan of a few days should make them friends. Look up on how to introduce a new pet to an old pet. I think more than likely you should be able to have her with your other cats. I think it can be done and if done properly and with calm and patience you should have a happy cat family.

I totally agree with this! Its VERY rare to bring home an adult cat and have them get along with current territory established adult cats and dogs. It takes a LOT of time and patience, but it will pay off. ALWAYS seperate new pets from each other and gradually introduce them.
On another note I agree with adopting an older cat..poor babies!! What must they be thinking? "What did I DO? Why am I here? Where my FAMILY??" I cry when I go to the HS because they reach their paws thru as to say, "please!! please take me away from here...." I cry and cry when I am there, silly since I run my own cat rescue with a really good friend. But we use foster homes, or recently, HER home..LOL. Its easier on the cat. Still makes me sad, people wanting to get rid of their pet, to me a pet is a commitment like a child, JUST like a child. Would you get rid of your son if you got tired of spending good money on his food? Or tired of bathing him? NO, you would not, I have 4 cats, as well as a wonderful daughter, and unless I die....they will all be with me forever. Well till they pass on to the rainbow bridge..No NOT my daughter..LOL she can stay till she is 30 I guess.....
I am here if anyone needs advice on cat behavior how to's, ANYTHING. None of my cats are declawed, all use the post, none walk on counters or go out of the litter box. Training a cat is fun, and VERY rewarding. PM me if you need me or email me direct at allcatsrescue@gmail.com, or sylverkitti@yahoo.com.

That's so good to hear. She found her home! I bet you feel so relieved. Older kitties need love too!
